On 23rd October, we attended the evening programme , such as 'SITAPARITYAGAM ' by Smt. Kapila Venu. and Folk Songs and Dances from Poland.
In a note on SITAPARITYAGAM , it is stated that " Kutiyattam is the oldest surviving Sanskrit Theatre
tradition of Kerala. It has a unique representation of Sanskrit plays and highly stylized and complex theatre language replete with hand gestures and facial expressions. "
" kutiyattam is the kerala style of presentation of classical Sanskrit dramas of playwrights like Bhasa, Kalidasa Kulashekhara , Shaktibhadra etc.,
It is further explained in the hand note "Satvika Abinaya ( Physical manifestation of feelings and emotions) is considered as most important. A highly developed technique of Hastabhinaya ( hand gestures) and Netrabhinaya (eye expressions) are used for this "
It was also brought to our notice that UNESCO recently declared Kutiyattam as a ' Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity '.
In the programme, the solo performance by Smt. kapila Venu -impersonating the charecters of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, animals, sage Valmiki,the boys was something unique , beautiful and great.
