Pelicans and Painted Storks of Kokkare Bellur

We drove down from Bangalore on a cool February morning. A two hour drive from Padmanabhanagar in Bangalore. This included a rather long breakfast halt of dosai and idli and kesaribath. Kokkare Bellur is a short deviation on The Bangalore Mysore highway

Watch out for the large signboard on Bangalore - Mysore Highway. Turn left here into Kokkare Bellur

Birds up to 4 feet high clustered on treetops.
They choose sturdy trees like the tamarind and banyan and peepul trees

I am single and ready to mingle!!

Large wingspan and silent flying

A nest but no eggs as yet

The hamlet of Kokkare Bellur

Painted Storks and Pelicans come into the small sleepy hamlet of Kokkare-Bellur for breeding in December. They stay here for four months. They build nests, lay eggs, breed young ones, take them walking through the streets of the sleepy hamlet and fly away in April. The boys of this hamlet are eager to take you around.
